Lindisfarne

Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, was a beacon of Anglo-Celtic Christianity from its foundation under St Aidan in 635 to its demise with the Viking raids of 793. As well as being the origin of the world-famous Lindisfarne Gospels, the monastery was a major centre for education of the likes of saints Cuthbert, brothers Chad and Cedd,Colman and Wilfred. It remains a place of pilgrimage today. To learn more, visit here.
